Michael Palmer is executive vice president and head of technology at City National Bank, in addition to serving as RBC’s U.S. Chief Information Officer (CIO). He is a member of City National’s Executive Leadership Team and Senior Management Team.
In his City National role, Michael is responsible for providing the vision, strategic direction and leadership in development and support of all bank technology. This mandate includes the expansion and integration of City National and RBC capabilities, harnessing the power of each organization.
As U.S. CIO, Michael has dedicated oversight and accountability for the RBC U.S. technology strategy, architecture and operating model for all businesses operating in the U.S., including City National Bank, Wealth Management (U.S.), Global Asset Management (U.S.), RBC Bank (Georgia) and Capital Markets (U.S.). His mandate includes strengthening and modernizing U.S. technology through regulatory remediation, risk management, governance and oversight, and through the design of future-state technology supporting the RBC U.S. business strategy.
Mike is a seasoned IT executive, with more than 30 years of experience in the industry. He first joined RBC in 2011. Prior to his current role, he was RBC’s senior vice president, Wealth Management Technology & Solutions. He has also served as RBC’s chief data officer, as well as vice president and managing director of Finance Technology. Earlier in his career, he worked at Citigroup and Salomon Smith Barney, holding senior leadership roles in Corporate Systems and Middle Office Technology.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in economics (finance) from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Applied Science in systems engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He lives near Princeton, New Jersey, with his wife and three children.
